I heard that Auburn Printers and Integrated Marketing has some really awesome specials on promotional items such as Water Bottles, Monitor Clips and Bug Spray with your company’s name on them!

I heard Sharon Gannon, “The QuickBooks Guru” has officially changed the name of her business to “The Bookkeeping Guru” because the old name,
Gannon Business Financial Services was too boring and not memorable.

Also, I heard she is starting an Auburn QuickBooks User Group, which will meet at 7:30am at Courthouse Coffee on Tuesdays.

The Auburn Chamber of Commerce is in the process of providing a public forum that would allow both sides to express their opinions openly. Ultimately, the decision rests with County Planning and the Board of Supervisors.

I am part of a group of at least 4 Home Owners Associations and we are very concerned at the prospect of the Jim Conkey’s Bohemia Project development going in at Luther Road and Highway 49.

This will be disastrous on many levels, which I will try to enumerate below.

1. Terrible traffic congestion on Luther road and Canal Street for back access is not designed to handle the 1000 expected traffic trips daily. This will also cause extra traffic taking the shortcut up Oak Ridge street to the back entry of the residential area, and that street is very narrow and is not able to handle the very large increase in traffic flow. Canal street is also very narrow and was not designed to handle heavy truck traffic.

2. Woodside Creek Village is an elderly populated mobile home park just one block east of Canal Street on Luther, and they get several entries by ambulances daily due to elderly health issues. The extra traffic will impair the elderly’s ability to get prompt medical attention.

3. The expected Wal-Mart going in at Bohemia Project is known for unfavorable employee treatment as well as for negatively impacting locally family owned business operations. Wal-Mart’s frequently close up after they decide the profit amrgin is not what they anticipated, leaving many small businesses to have gone out of business, and then Wal-Mart leaves an empty business location. It is know that 84% of Wal-Mart business comes from declining sales at other local retail outlets.
Typically each new Wal-Mart employee causes the loss of 1.4 lost jobs in existing businesses.

4. A new traffic light at Luther and Canal would cause horrible bottleneck traffic at Highway 49. Luther merges from two lanes entering eastbound into one lane within one short block.

I would like to speak to the Chamber of Commerce members to get their support in Opposition to Placer County Board of Supervisors approval of this project.
