Mayor Kirby outlined the phase 2 of the street scape with the majority of the work will be undergrounding of utilities and street/sidewalk improvments. The old town fire house restoration will begin after AMGEN Tour of California. Supervisor Holmes updated us on the regional sewer and agreements with local fire contract adjustments. Counsilman Holmes presented the current situation with the Auburn State Recreation Area and it’s future.

Councilman Holmes presented a list of the projects that will spruce up the city. He also informed us that Rep. Tom McClintock will participate in the Memorial Day event at the New Auburn Cemetery. Tom Dwelle shared photos from his trip to Cuba and enlighted us about what life is like there.

Streetscape Phase 2 and the Monopine will be topics at next weeks Auburn City Council meeting according to Mayor Kirby. Also, the medical marijuana dispensory issue will be on the agenda.
Supervisor Holmes reported that the county is successfully reducing the retirement fund deficit. This the centennial year of womens right to vote in California, the 6th state to make that the law. Suzanne Wharton, great name, from Canine Companions for Independence shared the efforts of this organization to train dogs to assist those in need of this support including: companion dogs and hearing dogs. Last week, Luke Parnell from the fair board gave a history and future for the fair grounds here in town.

Tom Dwelle shared photos and stories of his trip to Havana. Mayor Kirby discussed the challenges for next years budget. Captain Ruffcorn updates us on the progress of the Amgen events. Placer County has contracted with Pride Industries for custodial work for some county buildings according to Supervisor Holmes. Also veteran services budget and library budget are not definate as of now, but are important items to maintain given the current economy. Lowell Jarvis, PCWA board chairman, presented a power point on the history and workings of the water and power systems under their management.

Cheryl Bly-Chester was the guest speaker on February 15th and presented her platform for her run for the 4th Assembly District seat. The last two sessions the topic of the Reemer Street sign was presented by Mayor Kirby. Captain Ruffcorn gave an update on the Amgen Tour of California. Supervisor Holmes recapped his trip to Washington DC and the meetings that were held there. This weeks speaker was Tim Ray with AT&T detailed the effect of the “monopine” cell tower on the city.

The Elm Center is filling up and that is good for Auburn according to Mayor Kirby. Captain Ruffcorn informed the group about the announcement on Wednesday the 9th and the progress of preparations for the May 17th race start in central square. Supervisor Holmes report included Measure F salary increases for county employees, HVAC and lighting improvements at the jail and courthouse with a grant, and ruling on foul in residentual areas. Councilman Mike Holmes had a meeting with all the parties involved with the continued support of the ASRA. Matt Williams, candidate for assembly, presented his positions for the upcoming election.

Mayor Kirby Stated that the regional sewer issue is still in question and all the data is not clear at this point. The ASRA is still jeopardy but thanks to the efforts of Counsilman Holmes and many others there is promise for a solution. The Baltimore Ravine project is back to the planning commission. John Allard, candidate for Assembly, presented his ideas and answered questions regarding his thoughts for the future in California.

Mayor Kirby reported that a letter has been sent to the Dept. of the Interior regarding the ASRA and its importance to our region. Costs for regional sewer will be coming this week. The redevelopment money may be taken by the state. Supervisor Holmes stated that redistricting will be completed by 1/11/11 ( I like the date) with final census number by the first of March. The Placer County Conservation Plan document is completed and forwarded. Dawn Heywood, district manager for the Social Security Department gave us insites into the current status and future of the social security system.

Auburn Journal editor Deric Rothe presented his top 10 stories for 2010 with opportunity for questions and additional information beyond the article in the Journal.

Mayor Kirby informed the group that parking tickets have been upped from $25 to $33 to reflect hiked payment due to the State! The new cell tower is on hold for now and there may be some good news about our future sewer needs. A resolution was passed in support of the Auburn State Recreation Area. Supervisor Holmes report included good news for the Dewitt center renters. Six new patrol cars for the Sheriffs department as well as a new contract with CalFire. The Assistance League of Greater Placer presented an educational puppet program for elementary students that has impacted over 1200 students about bullying, school safety, and learning differences.
